Forever Blowing Bubbles 2014
Hi all
Thank you for visiting our page. Well, it's hard to believe that our little sweetheart Alannah would have been 5 this year. The time has gone by so quickly. They say that time is a great healer and I suppose it is, but we'll never forget Alannah and the impact that she had on us and everyone who heard about her.
For those of you not familiar with Alannah and her story, we have posted a link to her blog. Alannah was diagnosed antenatally with CHD - congenital heart disease. She fought a brave battle but unfortunately lost that fight on 19 April 2009 when she was 19 days old. Since her passing, we have held a fundraiser for Heart Children Ireland, selling bubbles to celebrate Alannah's birthday.
This year we are delighted to announce that Pitman Training Ireland have agreed to sponsor our Forever Blowing Bubbles fundraiser. We are so grateful to them for their support.
We are selling our bubbles for €2 per bottle. We would encourage you to donate online through our mycharity page if possible - that way we don't have the responsibility for the cash! Alannah's birthday is 31 March and our bubbles are sold to celebrate her birthday. This year it falls on a Monday, but maybe on the Sunday at 11:44 am - you could blow a bubble or two to our angel to wish her a happy birthday. If you feel like it, take some photos of your bubble blowing and e-mail it to foreverbbday@yahoo.co.uk. We'll put together a montage of the photos we receive and post it up for all to see.
If anyone would like to take a box (24 bottles) and sell them for us, we'd greatly appreciate your help.
This year, we are fundraising for Heart Children Ireland's Family Support Service. In 2008 Heart Children Ireland funded a Cardiac Clinical Psychologist for the Cardiac Unit at Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital in Crumlin. This funding was for a period of three years and was to end in 2011 when traditionally the HSE would take over the post. Unfortunately, due to cutbacks the HSE would not take over the position.
Heart Children Ireland could not allow this wonderful service to disappear and so they approached the Clinical Psychologist and asked her to work directly with them and their families to develop a Psychology Service. Thankfully, she agreed and they now have the only pre and post operation psychology support service in Ireland.
You might ask why a need for such a service? Young heart children may experience up to four open heart surgeries before they reach the age of ten. This causes immense trauma and stress to them, their parents and siblings. The psychology support service works with the families in groups and on an individual basis. Heart Children Ireland travel nationwide with their Clinical Psychologist holding workshops, family counseling and open discussions. This is now their most sought after service and Heart Children Ireland are absolutely committed to it.
The service costs approx seventy thousand per annum and we hope that with your support, we can raise some funds to help this service continue its valuable work.
